Matt won further honors this school year by being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, which recognizes academic excellence, leadership, service, and other attributes. He is one of 15 students in his large middle school, grades 6 - 8, to receive this recognition.
Matt has also been very active in athletics this year, playing on school, AAU, and 76er leagues in basketball, and on the baseball team as well. He is very good at both, and he also has played football and other sports.

At his school's awards ceremony, here are is what Matt was honored with:
Matt is very involved in athletics, as well. He played football in the Fall (see below pics), basketball int he winter, soccer in the Spring, and now is playing basketball in the summer. The school coach asked him to play AAU basketball, and he is also attending the76ers Basketball Camp, and took private lessons from The Shootist.
Matt was born to Chris and Cindi on March 20, 1997. He is finishing up third grade and does great in school. For one thing, he has 100% on every spelling test all year long. In a prior year, he won a reading trophy for reading the most books and collecting for Muscular Dystrophy as pledges per book. Matt does very well in all his classes and he also has made a lot of school friends. He is a student and an athelete. He plays football in the fall, basketball in the winter, soccer in the spring, and baseball in the summer. He is tall, wiry, and athletic.
Matt is a great kid to be around; he shares, plays well, is energetic, smart, and very polite. When he was little, he used to love to play "peeps" (the little plastic character replicas from movies) with Grandpa (me), and Grandpa loved it, too. He likes to play sports, and he likes to borrow books from the library and read them. What a cool kid. And he is growing up soooo fast. I'm very proud of him.Matt and his GrandPa after the game. Matt plays offense and defense and plays most of the games, except special teams plays. His team is great, finishing the regular season undefeated, and has been touring, playing as far away as Baltimore.

We all went to Matt's house to celebrate his 9th birthday with a big family brunch. Matt got a cool new bike that looks like a Harley Hog, with a big fat rear tire, low rider profile, and extended front wheel.
On March 20 we all went to Matt's house to celebrate his 8th birthday. He is really getting tall (and
the girls tell me he's handsome, too). Anyhow, we all had a great time.Matt has his 8th Birthday!
