Chuck & Karen Attend the Lee Annenberg Tribute
Held at the Philadelphia Academy of Music
Karen and I attended the tribute hosted by Gerry Lenfest for Lee Annenberg, held at the Philadelpha Academy of Music. I bring
this up here for two reasons:
- The Annenberg Foundation has had an enormous impact in Philadelphia, the country, and the world,
make the world a better place through the arts, medicine, and education opportunity. Walter and Lee Anneberg were, by all reports,
exceptional people. Walter owned Triangle Communications (e.g., TV Guide) and did many spectacular things (e.g., Embassador to the Court
of St. James). While Lee was also very involved (e.g., Chief of Protocol in the 1970's), she was a dedicated philanthropist, as was
Walter.
- The event itself was one of those things that you just cannot pass up. With tributes by HRH Charles, The Prince of Wales; Former Pesident
George Herbert Walker Bush; Colin Powell; Governor Ed Rendell; NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter; Justice
Sandra Day O'Connor; Gerry Lenfest (host); Andrea Mitchell; Tom Brokaw; and more, the dias was filled with luminaries. The reception
that followed was a pull-out-all-the-stops, and we got to mingle with the hoi-polloi.
